2019 Toyota Prius Prime

By Joe Mavilia

Overview:

This is the 2019 Toyota Prius Prime. Well to me this is like dating the girl next door, but it has been my experience and observation that if you marry her, she will age far better than a “Flashy” looking girls in your youth. This Prius is not pretty to me today, but at 54 mpg she’s going to look pretty darn good in our golden years with less income. Just say’n.

General Information:

Assembly: Aichi, Japan; Classification is Compact Cars; Vehicles from Toyota: 4Runner, 86, Avalon, Camry, C-HR, Corolla, Corolla iM, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Mirai, Prius, Prius C, Prius Prime, Prius V, RAV4, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, Yaris and Yaris iA.

Handling & Performance:

Hybrid is the only way to go – forget all electric. In any case these small displacement engines are peppy and if you opt for a Turbocharged version, they are spectacular performers.

Styling

Taste is in the eye of the beholder it has been said. No truer words ever spoken. To me it is just ok, to many it is beautiful

Fit and Finish:

Toyota quality – good consistently over a long history

Cost:

A little pricey for this means of transportation. You are paying a premium for the badge.

Conveniences and comfort:

Not great, but fair depending on how you measure it against the price

Consumer Recommendations:

As I always recommend, you need to look around before you get too serious about falling in love to easily with the romancing of the image of the name. But cult following is a factor you can’t predict. I’d look at Kia and Hyundai before you leap.

Good News:

Efficient in fuel economy and it’s a hybrid.

Pricey
