Overview:
This is the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited 4X4. I couldn’t resist going off road into the California Poppy Reserve in Lancaster CA. Not only is it a beautiful setting there is only a narrow window that only lasts a few short weeks beginning in April. The flowers go for miles and miles in all directions and was a restful day to read a good book and have a picnic in the desert.

One of the primary reasons to test Jeep, for me, is because I’m in search of a vehicle to tow behind an RV. Jeep is one of the few cars that can be ‘flat towed’ which makes the process of towing much more easily done. Flat towing is where you just put a tow bar from the front of the Jeep and hook up to your Motorhome. No trailers or dolly’s needed. There is a quick release of the drive train that disengages the drive wheels front and rear.

General InformationIt is assembled in Toledo, Ohio, USA. Parts: US/Canada 62, Mexico 21%, Engine & Transmission – USA. Classification is Small SUV. Cars from Jeep: Cherokee, Compass, Grand Cherokee, Renegade, Wrangler.

Handling & Performance:
Jeep is not my favorite commuter because it has poor fuel economy, relatively speaking. I would opt for a Hybrid Kia, Hyundai, or even a Toyota Prius. But when you want to go roughing it you can’t do any better that that old veteran Jeep.

Styling:
Ok, so Jeep had a humble beginning as a special purpose vehicle that the generals during WWII said Jeep was one of those developments that was instrumental in winning the war for America and its allies. Simple doesn’t even explain its versatile rough and ready personality. I find that people who drive a Jeep are adventuresome. And there isn’t many places you can’t reach when you have a Jeep.

Yes, some competition like the Toyota 4Runner, Chevrolet Traverse and even the Jeep Grand Cherokee don’t have the flexibility the Wrangler does. I’ve had most every car & truck off road over the years and Jeep is unquestionably the best. Pictured below are two vehicles we took camping deep into the High Sierra Mountains of California. I had a tough time keeping up with that 1943 Jeep.

Fit and Finish:
Wrangler Jeeps are the least refined of most SUV’s on the market today, but that’s the way I like it. The original is always the best of anything in a series.

Cost:
Competitive.

Conveniences and comfort:
Way more than you need

Consumer Recommendation:
If you are an adventurous guy or gal who love the out-of-doors you will be empowered by owning a Jeep.

My military days in Naval Air was my first experience with Jeep, and of course they were painted Navy Grey but the same great vehicle that were no nonsense – you just jumped in and went. But in those days, there were no seat belts or beeping sounds to remind you to buckle up. Hell, they didn’t even have doors.

When we go trekking of into the outback wilderness camping I would pick the 1943 Army Jeep over most other Off Road 4-wheel drive vehicles.
